Truth About Trees
Thursday, October 1
Sponsored by Downes & Reader Hardwood Co., Inc. and Batey, Ltd.

The Hardwood Forest Foundation presents the Truth About Trees program, which teaches children across North America that harvesting trees is not always harmful to the environment and explores the many items that have tree products in their makeup. Special guests for the event were 50 Boston area elementary school children. The event is open to all attendees and is a great opportunity to receive a true understanding of the impact the Truth About Trees program has on children.

U•C Coatings Corporation

Norm Murray is owner and CEO of U•C Coatings Corporation, the manufacturer of coatings and other wood protection products for the hardwood industry. As a member of, and 100 percent dependent upon, the forest products community, Norm became increasingly aware of the realities of resource use and stewardship issues. In 1989, he began addressing local business groups and elementary school classes, combining forest facts with a musical presentation. (Norm has been singing and playing guitar semi-professionally since 1960)

In 1991, Norm composed and recorded the songs “I’m a Tree” and “We’re the Forest Families of this Country”, and then developed a formal classroom presentation based on the songs. For his work, he has received the Kentucky Forest Industries Association “Communicator of the Year” award and the Northeastern Loggers’ Association award for “Outstanding Contribution to Forest Industry Education,” and has sold more than 10,000 recordings.
