Forest Stewardship Award The Forest Stewardship Award was established in 1996 to further NHLA’s mission of promoting responsible stewardship of hardwood forests. The award is presented to the NHLA member company that most exemplifies excellence in forest stewardship, both in regard to its own forest management practices as well as its efforts to promote forest stewardship among landowners, legislators, the public and the forest products industry. A five-member committee of academic experts and industry leaders selected the Forest Stewardship Award winner for NHLA. They looked at five different criteria. Past recipients of the NHLA Forest Stewardship Award are: All Active, Associate and Sustaining Members, (regardless of whether they own or lease timberlands), of the Association are eligible for the award.
